Solution Focused Therapy is an information-gathering tool to assist the counsellor to be aware of stumbling blocks that the client may have, which enables the client to actually access the ‘state’ of the outcome they want to achieve from the therapy. Accessing the ‘state’ creates hope within the client and helps them be more inwardly focussed towards achieving their outcome.
The therapy enables the client to consider, employment, social situations, and relationships, with the highest possible outcome that they can achieve. The therapy will only be used if the client needs help to make decisions or plans. (i.e. New job, moving house, ending a relationship etc).
Solution Focused Therapy is used at the beginning of therapy to enable the client to identify specific goals and targets that they hope to achieve. The counsellor may refer back to the work some months later to assess the client's progress.
